31 March - Greensome

Thank you to my playing partner today Trevor Tait.  We managed to scrape 41 points thanks to Trevor, we had the pleasure of the company of Paul Richards and Ged Clarkin who scored 39.  Due to a camera malfunction there is no pic today.

18th March, Captains Drive in

Thank you to all the members who came and supported the drive in, Lady Captain, Junior Captain and I were very pleased to have so much support, 24 teams played in the shotgun after even though it was Mothers Day.

Lady Captain and I are supporting Factor 50 this year, we hope you will help us raise lots of funds to help the research into a cure for Malignant Melanoma.

Hello to All Members and Followers,

Welcome to my blog for 2012, I intend to keep this as up to date as I can this year.

So here goes, this is my speech from the AGM so if you were unable to attend please feel free to read it.

MAY I TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK THE PAST CAPTAINS FOR THEIR NOMINATION AND YOU, THE MEMBERS, FOR SELECTING ME AS YOUR CAPTAIN FOR 2012.  THIS WILL BE MY 40^TH YEAR HERE AND I AM NOW THE 89^TH PERSON TO BE CAPTAIN, IN THIS THE 99^TH YEAR OF OUR CLUB,  I AM VERY HONOURED. 

THE ESSENCE OF OUR CLUB IS TO PROMOTE HEALTH AND HAPPINESS TOGETHER WITH FRIENDSHIP.  THIS IN MY VIEW, IS SOMETHING WE DO VERY WELL AND I SHALL CONTINUE TO UPHOLD THESE VALUES. 

THE CLUB CANNOT FUNCTION WITHOUT IT’S BAND OF VOLUNTEERS ON VARIOUS COMMITTEES – FROM ECOLOGY TO THE 200 CLUB, MEMBERSHIP TO MARKETING, HOUSE TO FINANCE, AND GREENS TO COMPETITIONS. WE MUST NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE VALUE THAT WE PLACE ON THEM.   

AT THE CORE OF EVERY COMMITTEE IS THE CHAIRMAN AND WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE VERY CAPABLE PEOPLE IN EACH OF THESE POSITIONS BOTH NOW AND  IN THE RECENT PAST. 

THE COUNCIL HAS WORKED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ALL THE COMMITTEES AND HAS BEEN ABLE TO MAKE TOUGH DECISIONS, AS AND WHEN REQUIRED, FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE CLUB. 

THE CLUB ENTERS AND HOLDS MANY COMPETITIONS -  AM/AM, 3 MAN TEAM AND OPENS, SENIORS AND MIXED.  WE PLAY VARIOUS MATCHES, TEAMS AND FRIENDLIES.  THE ORGANISERS ARE ALWAYS KEEN FOR NEW PLAYERS AND ALSO HELP ON THE DAY OF THE VARIOUS EVENTS, SUCH AS REGISTRATION, STARTERS AND CARAVAN HELPERS TO MENTION A FEW,  SO THAT THE CLUB CAN BE REPRESENTED IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY.

THE YEAR AHEAD IS ONE OF GREAT EXPECTATION.  THE CENTENARY LOOMS LARGE ON THE HORIZON WITH ONLY 374 DAYS TO GO BEFORE THE EFFORTS OF THE CENTENARY COMMITTEE WILL COME TO FRUITION AND WE ALL THANK THEM FOR THEIR STERLING WORK.  I AM SURE THAT IAN AND SUE WILL KEEP A KEEN EYE ON THE FINAL STAGES OF PLANNING. 

TOGETHER WITH FRANK, SOPHIE AND MARK,   I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR COMPANY, BOTH AT SOCIAL EVENTS AND ON THE COURSE.  I INTEND TO HAVE A FUN PACKED YEAR AND PLAY GOLF WITH AS MANY OF YOU AS I CAN.

WITH THE SUPPORT OF YOU THE MEMBERS, WE CAN TAKE THIS GREAT CLUB, OF WHICH WE SHOULD ALL BE PROUD, INTO THE NEXT 100 YEARS.
